BP Global Choice Programme® is a major non-profit environmental programme that helps businesses offset greenhouse gas emissions directly related to their fuel use.
This leading initiative balances the need for mobility with the aim of being environmentally accountable.
How it works
BP offsets all greenhouse gas emissions from our BP staff vehicles when using BP fuel. We run BP Global Choice Programme® as an invitation for other businesses to join us in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
BP Global Choice Programme® is a practical solution that provides a way for our customers to demonstrate their commitment to the environment.
When a customer joins BP Global Choice Programme®, we calculate the level of greenhouse gas emitted based on their fuel consumption. Members can then choose the amount of fuel purchases they wish to offset and we do the rest.
The offset contribution from a company running a fleet of cars or equipment is then invested by BP Global Choice Programme® in greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects, such as fuel switching, capturing landfill gas and cleaner technology.
This verified programme is independently audited and certified Greenhouse FriendlyTM by the Federal Government's Department of Climate Change.
Each year, participants receive a Certificate of Recognition endorsed by the Department of Climate Change quantifying the greenhouse gas emissions they have offset.
Results-driven performance
We're leading our competitors with this unique programme, which is achieving major success each year.
To date, we've offset over 2 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions through the BP Global Choice Programme® initiative.
Seven years after launch, our BP Global Choice Programme® had made a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking over 400,000 cars off the road.
In December 2007 the offsets purchased for BP Global Choice Programme® accounted for around half the total of all greenhouse gas emission reductions created through the Department of Climate Change's Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative.
We continue to work with environmental groups to ensure we're staying ahead of the field in the environmental and sustainability arena.
