BP Solar has been a leading supplier of solar power solutions in Australia for more than 20 years. Tested in some of the world’s harshest environments, our products continue to lead the way in performance and innovation.
BP Solar entered the Australian solar market in 1985 and in 1999, BP Solar merged with Solarex Corporation, which had been operating in Australia since 1976. Globally, BP Solar’s heritage extends back to 1973.
Until recently, the Australian solar market has been serving mainly off-grid applications - where access to the main electricity grid is not available or possible - such as telecommunications or remote housing.
More recently, grid-connect solar systems have become increasingly popular. These systems generate electricity during daylight hours and feed it into the electricity grid, creating a credit against the account. At night, or when the customer’s electricity demand is greater than the solar system’s generation, the customer draws electricity from the grid as normal.
Almost any kind of solar electricity system can be connected to the grid. More and more Australian families and businesses are installing solar and becoming CEOs of their own clean energy power stations.
BP Solar has been heavily involved in the development of innovative ‘solar cities’ in Blacktown City, Adelaide and Alice Springs, as part of the Australian Government-funded Solar Cities initiative. We anticipate that these trials will result in significant reductions in emissions and long-term savings across both the domestic and business sectors.
BP Solar panels power forecourt lighting in selected BP retail sites across Australia and New Zealand, resulting in energy and emission reductions. BP Solar panels also power the world’s first fully solar electricity-powered bus in Adelaide, and a range of large commercial solar installations in cities around Australasia.
As well as reducing reliance on fossil-fuelled power sources, BP Solar panels also improve quality of life and economic opportunities in developing communities. BP Solar has rolled out thousands of solar systems across the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka to power homes, hospitals, schools and agricultural initiatives.
BP Solar is working on a range of projects with other corporations throughout Australia such as ANZ, Integral Energy and Delfin Lendlease, and maintains robust relationships with local, state and federal government departments.
Our growing partnerships are helping to lower Australia’s emission levels and are driving Australia forward in its move towards a lower carbon future.
BP Solar has been helping Australians to plug into the sun for more than 20 years.
