Vouchers for Volunteers

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The BP Vouchers for Volunteers Programme begins at 9:00am 27/04/2009 and ends at 5:00pm (AEST) on 11/05/2009 (Application Period).
  2. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this programme is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Applications not completed in accordance with these terms and conditions will be declared void.
  3. Applications are only open to Australian residents who fulfil the entry requirements. BP employees, officers, contractors and their immediate families are ineligible to apply for this programme. “Immediate families” means spouse, parent, natural or adopted child, and sibling (whether natural or adopted by a parent), whether or not they live in the same household as the employee, officer or contractor.
  4. To be eligible to apply for the Vouchers for Volunteers programme, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria: A) Applicant must volunteer for a not-for-profit organisation B) Applicant must supply a current registered not-for-profit organisation number / current incorporated association number. C) Applicant must incur fuel expenses in the process of volunteering. D) Applicant must perform an educational, social or environmental function. Eligible organisations include: Educational Institutions such as schools, universities, pre-schools and other educational establishments that are properly accredited according to Australian law and registered as not-for-profit; Health & Human Service Organisations including social welfare and other organisations dealing with health and medical issues, eradication of disease, drug rehabilitation, hunger, HIV/AIDS, as well as adult and youth programmes dealing with unemployment, homelessness and social welfare registered as not-for-profit; Organisations involved in Arts & Culture including museums, theatres, orchestras, historical societies, performing arts companies, libraries, public television and public radio stations registered as not-for-profit; Development and Community Organisations including community improvement or service organisations such as housing, job training, urban redevelopment, sporting, youth and community organisations registered as not-for-profit; Environmental & Conservation Organisations including local, regional or national organisations concerned with environment, nature and wildlife preservation including animal welfare, water usage programmes, pollution prevention, recycling and energy conservation registered as not-for-profit. E) Applicant must not meet any of the ineligibility criteria. Ineligible Organisations include: Political or fraternal organisations; Religious groups and programmes including building and maintenance of places of worship. However, applications will be considered if you can provide documentation that the activities undertaken by this organisation benefit the general public and are non-denominational and non-sectarian in nature; Groups that discriminate or limit membership based on race, gender, beliefs, class or cultural considerations; BP employees, officers, contractors and their immediate families are ineligible to apply for this programme.
  5. All eligibility decisions and final application decisions will be made at the discretion of BP Australia. In the instance that a final decision cannot be made in determining some successful applicants based on individual volunteering story alone, length of time spent as a not-for-profit volunteer, volunteer location and/or average distance traveled in the process of volunteering may be used to separate applicants.
  6. To enter, eligible entrants are required to log on to the Talk Stopped Long Ago website www.talkstoppedlongago.com.au, follow the prompts and enter the required information during the Application Period. Chance plays no part in this programme. Applicants will be selected based on their adherence to BP’s entry criteria and the individual’s personal volunteering story. In some cases, length of time spent as a not-for-profit volunteer, volunteer location and/or average monthly distance traveled in the process of volunteering may be used to separate applicants.
  7. Only one application per volunteer will be accepted. Only one application per email address will be accepted.
  8. Total available prize pool is $250,000. Wherever possible, BP will attempt to select applicants from a cross-section of Australian society – located in both regional/rural and metropolitan areas.
  9. Names of successful applicants will be published on the website www.talkstoppedlongago.com.au by 1/06/2009.
  10. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email by 1/06/2009, and BP Pre Pay fuel cards will be provided to successful applicants by regular mail by 30/06/2009. BP will take no responsibility for lost or stolen BP Pre Pay fuel cards. In the event that a BP Pre Pay fuel card remains unclaimed by 30/09/2009, BP Pre Pay fuel cards will be re-allocated to selected (previously unsuccessful) applicants, by the Vouchers for Volunteers programme team, according to the selection criteria noted in section 6.
  11. If a successful applicant is under the age of 18 years, the BP Pre Pay fuel card will be awarded to the applicants’ nominated parent or guardian.
  12. BP Pre Pay fuel card can be redeemed at any BP site in Australia.
  13. The BP Pre Pay fuel card offer is not redeemable in conjunction with any other offer or on any purchases made with BP Plus Card or any customer loyalty card.
  14. The BP Pre Pay fuel cards are valid for fuel purchases only, they are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash.
  15. See the BP Pre Pay fuel card for individual card expiration date. BP Pre Pay fuel cards are subject to their own Terms and Conditions of use.
  16. BP Australia reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of applications and applicants (including an applicant’s identity, volunteer status and place of residence) and to disqualify any entrant who submits an application that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who tampers with the application process. Failure by BP Australia to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
  17. Incomplete, indecipherable, illegible or late applications will be deemed invalid. Applications with unrecognisable or incorrect not-for-profit organisation numbers and/or email addresses will not be accepted. BP Australia accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected applications.
  18. Applications are deemed to be received at the time of receipt into the Vouchers for Volunteers database and not at the time of transmission by the entrant.
  19. The information participants provide will be used by BP Australia for the purpose of conducting this programme. BP Australia may disclose applicants’ personal information to its contractors and agents to assist in conducting this programme and communicating with applicants and State and Territory lottery departments. Winners’ names will be published on the website www.talkstoppedlongago.com.au. Application is conditional on providing this information. BP Australia may, for an indefinite period unless otherwise advised, use the information for promotional, marketing and publicity purposes, including sending electronic messages or telephoning the entrant. BP Australia is bound by the National Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988. Applicants can request access to information BP Australia holds about them and obtain a copy of BP Australia’s privacy policies by visiting www.bp.com. All applications become the property of BP Australia. Applicants consent to BP Australia using the applicant's name, likeness, image and/or voice in the event they are successful (including photograph, film and/or recording of the same) in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration for the purpose of promoting this programme (including any outcome), and promoting any products distributed and/or supplied by BP Australia.
  20. BP may change, suspend or terminate the conditions of the Vouchers for Volunteers programme at any time at its discretion. BP reserves the right to withdraw this programme at any time. Additionally, if this programme is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of BP Australia, BP Australia reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any applicant; or (b) subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the programme, as appropriate.
  21. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, in which case, liability will be limited to the minimum allowable amount, BP Australia (including its officers, employees, contractors and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the programme including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under BP Australia’s control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference.
  22. BP Australia does not accept any responsibility for any tax implications, including FBT implications that may arise. Independent financial advice should be sought.
  23. BP Australia’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
